Matteo De Gregori
For several years, to the question "What do you do?" I was able to answer with satisfaction "I make monsters" and enjoy the puzzled expression of the interlocutor.
Having graduated from DAMS (Disciplines of the Arts, Music and Entertainment) at Roma Tre University with a dissertation on the future of practical special effects, Matteo De Gregori has since continued to add arrows to his bow: masks, origami, sculpture, graphics, sfx make-up, videomapping, events organisation, electronics, programming, 3D modeling and printing.
He spent 5 years working for Makinarium, Italy's former leading practical effects studio, covering the roles of Technical Producer and Head of Animatronics and 3D Printing departments. After the dissolution of Makinarium's main team in 2020, he decided to set up on his own, continuing to collaborate with most of his ex-colleagues now at Imaginari Factory. This new set up allows him to keep working for the film industry while also focussing on other personal projects such as Robot Arena Challenge or La Robottega.
Here Matteo decides to use the knowledge and techniques acquired through the years of experience in Cinema to help companies and individuals in the realisation of their ideas. The most important tool he offers is not a 3D printer or scanner, but his problem-solving ability developed to meet the needs of eccentric productions and directors, within the crazy time frames of the entertainment industry.
